Witch Hunt - a Review

I'm going to keep this review very short, which is fitting considering that Witch Hunt, the final add-on for Dragon Age Origins was also very short.

Dragon Age is one of my favorite modern games. It has a rich, full world and high replayability due to the 6 different origin stories, the numerous party members you can choose to add or not add and the dozens of different decisions you can make that will completely change the game world around.

That being said Witch Hunt was a disappointment.  The advertising and hype lead you to believe that we would be able to track down Morrigan and gain some closure or at least insight into what was happening with the Morrigan and her child. Instead we got a 2 hour add-on that answered few questions and did little to forward the story.

First let me start with the gameplay. There is absolutely no challenge in this DLC. You can walk through it with no effort and it's unlikely any of your party will even receive an injury during the entire playthrough. You will be mostly going through areas you have already been in previously, there is very little in the way of new places to explore. Your new companions have a few interesting things to say but overall they seem a little flat - however that is probably just because you have such a short time to get to know them. There is only 1 new enemy to fight although it is an interesting creature whose existence seems to be setting the stage for Dragon Age 2.

I know many gamers have reported bugs with the ending where Morrigan's conversation and actions don't match with the ending of Dragon Age at all but thankfully I didn't run into that problem. However the ending was a letdown. We say hi, she gives us some vague information and takes off. No questions were answered and I felt like there was no closure to Morrigan's storyline at all. I haven't done a playthrough yet where I've romanced her so perhaps in that case it would have been a more fulfilling ending but with the "friends with Morrigan and you took the deal" ending the whole final conversation with Morrigan felt like a waste.

This add-on felt like more of a preview and ad for Dragon Age 2 to me. I honestly feel like it should have been a free download for what it was. Leliana's Song was a much better add-on in my opinion and well worth the cost. Witch Hunt, not so much.

Replacement N64 Thumbsticks!

One of the most common requests we get is for replacement thumbsticks for the Nintendo 64 controllers.  Well we've listened to you and we now have them in stock for just $9.95!

If you've spent a lot of time playing your N64 you know the analog stick (or joystick if you prefer) can wear out fairly quickly and become loose and unresponsive.  They can also break in such a way that they are difficult to move or make clicking noises.

Now you can easily repair your N64 controller yourself with our BRAND NEW replacement thumbsticks!  You just need a small Phillips head screwdriver and about 15 minutes and you'll be back to playing Goldeneye and Mario Party the way they should be played - with a tight joystick!

Of course if you would rather not fix it yourself or don't have a controller yet we have a full range of refurbished original Nintendo 64 controllers available - all with tight thumbsticks!  We have every color originally made available - Gold, Green, Blue, Black, Red, Yellow, Gray, and many more!

New NES 72-pin Connector On Sale!

Today's deal of the day is a great one for those original NES fans out there!  Unfortunately the Nintendo NES didn't have the best design and because of it's front loading layout it is easy for it's 72-pin connector to wear out.  That's whats causes the majority of problems with blinking and flashing when you try to start up your game!

Thankfully you can easily replace your 72-pin connector with a brand new one and eliminate blinking once and for all! Best of all today only we have the new 72 pin connector on sale for just $4.99! That's half the normal price!  Includes printed instructions that take you step by step through the installation process.

Limit 1 per customer!

Hands on with Okamiden

Let me start by saying that Okami is one of my favorite games of all time.  It had a certain charm and character to it, the visuals were stunning and I felt it was one of the most immersive games I've played.  The story, the gameplay, everything about it was extraordinary.  Of course perhaps most important was that it was DIFFERENT!  Since 99% of the commercial releases we see today can be lumped into 6 or 7 very similar genres it was a nice change to play something that actually breaks the mold instead of just claiming to in press releases.

Okami was also one of those games where you want a sequel so you can continue to adventure and explore the amazing world the developers created, but you are also afraid that a sequel couldn't possibly live up to the original.  Once Clover closed down I assumed we'd never find out.

Well now Okamiden is coming and I got to try it out at E3.  It looks good. It was very easy to just pick up and jump right into.  It was fun running around on Chibiterasu, exploring, and working with the Celestial Brush.  But the simple fact is a game like this can't be evaluated by 15-minutes of playing.  The question is will the story be as fascinating, the characters as appealing, and the story as well written as the original?  If it even comes close I'll be thrilled, even a less than perfect trip back into the Okami world is one I'd like to take.  I guess we will just have to wait until 2011 to find out, but even if it doesn't live up to the original I'm very glad to see publishers willing to give a second shot to a game that was a critical success but commercial failure.

Hands on with Dragon Quest IX

Dragon Quest is one of the longest running and most recognized Nintendo franchises. The latest installment is being released next month (July 11th to be exact) on the Nintendo DS, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. Jesse and I had a chance to check out the game and were impressed. One of the things I was most excited about was the multi-player mode, which allows your character to transfer to another world in you friend's DS. Once there you can cooperate in battles, but also have complete control of your character if you want to wander and explore on your own.

Another aspect that appealed to me was that there are no random battles. When traveling along on the map you see the enemies in the area, and can approach or avoid if you prefer.

Overall I enjoyed sampling this game and will definitely be picking it up next month. For more details check out Nintendo's promo video here.

Nintendo 3DS

Well the verdict is in.  The new Nintendo 3DS will in fact be better than the Virtual Boy.  I know shocking right! Seriously though Nintendo's second foray into 3D gaming is looking to be a winner.  They have a very impressive line-up including Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS, Paper Mario 3DS, Animal Crossing 3DS, Kid Icarus Uprising, Mario Kart 3DS, and many many more.  Most importantly, NO GLASSES!

Don't worry Virtual Boy.  Your hell-like screens and headache inducing graphics will always have a special place in my heart.
