New Super Mario Brothers for Wii

Here we go is right! The New Super Mario Bros. for Wii takes you on an awesome adventure through the different worlds battling Koopa’s minions.  The setup is based on the original Mario series, but has totally different landscapes, enemies and Mario’s abilities.  However, I have to warn you – after receiving this gift for Xmas, I spent all of Sunday playing it and as a result, I now suffer a Wii-njury.  Yes, I mean a Wii injury – a dime sized blister on my thumb.  Apparently, I was on a mission to collect every coin, break every brick and destroy anything that got in my way.  That includes the competition in the same room.

One of the great new features of this game is that you can have multiple players – Mario, Luigi and different Toad characters.  Instead of being loyal to Luigi and my toad pals, I went against them and fought for every goody that came my way and even went as far as to chuck barrels at them until they plummeted to their deaths.  This new cut throat version creates great fun and competition for all!  Whether playing with friends or alone, Mario has some great new abilities.  I have always been a fan of Mario in the badger suit from Super Mario 3, but now he has a Penguin suit!  This rocks – not only can he slide on his belly knocking out anything in his path, but he can also shoot ice balls!  Once the enemy has been hit with ice, they freeze and Mario can then pick them up and throw them at the other bad guys. Well, I have only gotten as far as the final castle in World 4, but can’t wait to see what else comes my way.  This is a definite must have for all Mario fans!

NTSC Stadium Events for sale!

Someone is auctioning off a copy of the US NTSC version of Stadium Events! 6 days and 11 hours left and it's already up to $600. Of course if you are a console game collector you know this is a must have. It's the rarest licensed NES game ever made. At the time of its launch during the holiday season of 1987, Stadium Events was only available at Northern-region Woolworth's Department Store, which was a test market for Bandai. In 1988, Nintendo purchased the North American rights to the Family Fun Fitness mat technology and re-released it as the Power Pad. The two Family Fun Fitness-branded games that had already been released, as well as Bandai's version of the running pad accessory, were pulled from shelves and presumed destroyed. Because of this odd sequence of events, only 2000 copies are believed to have been produced, of which it is estimated that 200 copies reached consumers before being recalled.

Dragon Age - Origins

Finally got to start playing Dragon Age Origins. Normally we (my wife and co-owner of Lukie Games Sara and I) would have been on that one the moment it was released but this is such a busy time of the year for us sadly it's been sitting in it's case until last night. Started off as an Elven Mage and so far I have to say this game is great. It's way too early for a full review but in the early stages this game is awesome. With all the amazing games out there I very rarely play a game through more than once but I can see this as definitely being worth several playthroughs - the different starting storylines really helps to set this game apart and give it a high level of replayability.

Of course you can check out the many, many reviews out there and see that overall Dragon Age Origins gets some high marks but as you know early reviews aren't always accurate (remember Black and White getting perfect or near perfect reviews then later being called the most overrated game of all time?). That being said I do recommend it to RPG fans, especially if you liked Mass Effect or Oblivion. However we are playing it on the PS3 version and there are some definite frame rate issues - the playback stutters at spots and that's VERY annoying. You may want to try the Xbox 360 or PC version instead if you have multiple options.
